Knitting Empire is a Nordic knitting and crochet companion for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch with full English and Finnish user interfaces. It tracks your rows, highlights only your chosen size in multi-size patterns, decodes knitting abbreviations step by step, and keeps your yarn and needle stash organized – entirely on your own device.

What the app does

Three focused workspaces with zero clutter: Knit, Tools, and Stash.

  • Tactile Row Counter & Chart

    A large, one-thumb row counter, interactive knitting chart with a smart ruler, linked repeat counters for increase and decrease rows, and on-device voice commands and audio cues.

  • Smart Size Highlighter

    Pick the size you are making (e.g. M), and the app automatically filters multi-size brackets like 2 (4, 6, 8) sts to display only your stitch count. Long-press to view all sizes.

  • Knitting Dictionary & Decoder (358 terms)

    A comprehensive knitting and crochet glossary plus a pattern line interpreter (Tools → Glossary) that decodes knitting abbreviations (such as M1L, SSK, K2tog, W&T, GSR) into clear step-by-step instructions.

  • Needle & Yarn Conversion Tables

    Instant reference tables for international needle sizes (mm, US, and UK/Canada) and standard yarn weights (1 Lace – 6 Super Bulky, Ply, WPI, and typical gauge).

  • Stripe Planner, Fit & Swatch Tools

    Calculate leftover yarn yardage and stripe sequences by weight, check colourwork value contrast, and recalculate stitch counts for your swatch gauge.

  • Yarn Basket, Needles & Archive

    Keep an offline inventory of your yarn skeins, dye lots (Lot #), needle assignments for active projects, and a blocking log for finished objects.

Your data stays on your device

Knitting Empire requires no sign-in and never sends your projects, patterns, or stash data to a developer server.

  • The developer has no access to your knitting projects, pattern notes, or yarn and needle inventory.
  • No account or sign-in. Everything works immediately without an email address or password.
  • No analytics, ads, or tracking. Neither the app nor this website includes third-party tracking SDKs.
  • Works 100% offline – at home, at the cottage, or on a flight.
  • Full control over your data: all data is stored locally on your device and is deleted when you remove the app.

Knitting Empire (version 0.5.0) is currently in TestFlight beta testing and being prepared for the App Store. We do not collect a mailing list – once the app is live on the App Store, the direct link will appear here.
