Frequently asked questions
Does the app require an account or internet connection?
No. Knitting Empire runs entirely on your device without sign-in or an internet connection. All projects, the 359-term dictionary, conversion tables, calculators, and your stash work offline.
What language is the app interface in?
In version 0.5.0, the app's user interface is in Finnish, and its built-in dictionary and abbreviation interpreter are designed for translating English knitting and crochet patterns into Finnish.
How does the Smart Size Highlighter work?
When you select a target size for your project (e.g. S, M, L, or XL) in
the Neulo (Knit) tab, the app detects multi-size pattern brackets
such as Luo 80 (88, 96, 104) s and displays only the number
for your chosen size. Long-pressing the instruction line or tapping
Alkuperäinen (Original) shows the full unfiltered line.
How does the English–Finnish abbreviation interpreter work?
Open Työkalut → Sanasto (Tools → Dictionary) and type or paste an
English pattern line (for example,
Row 1 (RS): K1, M1L, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1) into the
Ohjerivin lyhennetulkki field. The app identifies every knitting
or crochet abbreviation on the line and lists its Finnish translation and
technique guide in order. The same definitions also appear automatically
below the active instruction line in the Neulo (Knit) tab.
What is inside the top-right Settings menu?
Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner (Asetukset) to switch between the Vaalea Pellava (light linen) and Cozy OLED (dark) themes, toggle hands-free voice control and audio cues, configure size filtering and size-bracket locking, or switch between flat and in-the-round knitting and left-handed chart mirroring.
Deleting your data
Knitting Empire has no user account, and all data resides on your own device. You can edit your project instructions and counters directly in the app, and deleting the Knitting Empire app from your device permanently removes all locally stored app data.
